A class separate from regular ballet technique. The curriculum allows teachers ample time to help students build the strength and alignment necessary for pointe work. It also helps them assess readiness, which lessens the risk of injury once students are in their shoes.
Pointe
Ages 11 & up (by teacher discretion) Pointe
is part of classical ballet involving a technique that concerns pointe work, in which a ballet dancer supports all body weight on the tips of fully extended feet when wearing pointe shoes.
Lyrical
Lyrical style combines freedom and musicality of jazz and contemporary. Lyrical dance is strongly associated with clearly displayed emotional moods, & fast-moving choreographic strategies, Lyrical dance utilizes training from jazz technique, ballet technique, and modern technique as a basis for movement.
Contemporary
Contemporary dance tends to combine the strong but controlled legwork of ballet with modern that stresses on torso. It also employs contract-release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation characteristics of modern dance. Unpredictable changes in rhythm, speed, and direction are often used, as well.
Modern
A free, expressive style of dancing started in the early 20th century as a reaction to classical ballet. In recent years it has included elements not usually associated with dance, such as speech and film.
Musical Theatre Ages 7 -18
An exploration of American Musical Theatre. Students will study the work of the actor/singer/dancer and use their gained knowledge to develop as performers.
Acro Ages 6-18
Acro Dance, or Acrobatic Dance, is a style of dance that combines classic dance technique with acrobatic elements. It is often defined by unique choreography and the seamless blending of musicality, emotional expression, line and extension with acrobatic movements in a dance context. Acro is a style of dance that combines nearly any style of dance, but usually lyrical, contemporary, or jazz with acrobatic skills and tricks.
